Recognize that today started yesterday.
All of your energy today was yesterday’s food, water and sleep. You have to set yourself up for victory beforehand. The battle is won or lost long before any blows are traded. Ever notice how Saturday is a complete waste if you spent Friday night drinking and staying up late? Saturday’s chances are killed by Friday’s actions. It takes almost 12 hours to fully digest food. So the energy you are feeling now was probably yesterday’s lunch. Know that, acknowledge and act upon that. Give your body the fuel it needs to perform at it’s best.
Start the day early.
If the sun is up before you, you’ve already lost. 5-7am is precious time where you can focus on the one thing that is going to push you forward before the day’s distractions get to you. This is sacred time where your energy is fresh and your mind is sharp. Wake up, drink a glass of cold water and hot coffee, sit down at your desk and dominate. I used to use this time for breakfast before I realized how much energy and time was wasted cooking, eating and digesting. Breakfast is important, but not more important than your main focus.
You must plan to dominate.
If the answer to what are you doing tomorrow is “Uhhhh… I dunno” You’ve already lost. Football has plays, businesses have plans and so must you in order to perform at your best. Set your task list of what MUST be done tomorrow and get them done first thing in the morning. The day is won or lost by 10am – if you wake up at 9am with no plan then youre screwed. Compare this to waking up at 5am with a clear vision. There is no comparison. We both know which person is going to go further in life.
You must reflect on the day.
Also, the week, the month and the year. Most importantly the day. You see, if you don’t have a plan, you have nothing to really reflect on. You have nothing to compare reality with. If you had a plan and failed. You can ask why, see why and change your behavior accordingly. You can notice trends and adjust. No plan, no reflection, no adjustment, no improvement. It is as simple as that. At the end of the week, you can chalk up your Wins and Losses and point out broader trends.
I touched on this in a previous post because it is vastly important. Momentum is a hugely powerful thing. How are you waking up? Slowly? Just laying there and slowly crawling out of bed? Hop up and get to it. Then keep going. When you sit, you lose momentum. When you get distracted by the endless Facebook stream, you lose momentum. I honestly hate sitting down and writing these articles or doing computer work in general. If I could do it outside while in motion, I absolutely would. Listen to fast paced music or something that keeps your energy going. This way you can feel like you are still moving. When you slow down and are mentally drained or zoning out, go for a walk – or better yet, work out and get your blood pumping. My best ideas come to me in the gym or when I am out and about.
Those are 5 ways I have found that help me to dominate my day. Anytime I don’t plan, I lose focus. If I throw away Sunday, then Monday is crap. fuck around on Friday and Saturday sucks.
So plan out tomorrow, get your ass to bed at a reasonable time and when you wake up, get up and come back in a week and tell me how you feel.
